The tornado that struck the Rolla community has been confirmed as an EF2. The storm caused significant damage, with over 750 structures affected within the city limits. An additional 150+ structures are estimated to have been damaged outside Rolla within Phelps County.
Volunteers are still needed to assist with cleanup efforts. If you can help, please check in at the Big Lots. 1001 S Bishop in Rolla, from 9 to 5. Please do not self-deploy to any locations. Donated supplies can also be brought to the Big Lots parking lot. Anyone in need of cleanup assistance is encouraged to reach out to us at 573-415-9878.
Utility teams are actively working to restore services, and we are hopeful they will be restored within a week.
We are deeply saddened to report a weather-related fatality resulting from a generator being operated inside a residence. We urge everyone to prioritize safety by never operating generators indoors or near residences.
The damage across our community is extensive, and the recovery journey will be challenging. However, our community is resilient, and we will overcome this difficult time together. Please remain patient as response teams work tirelessly to restore services. Please continue to check on your neighbors.
Our hearts go out to everyone, impacted by the devastating storm that struck the Rolla community last night. We are grateful that at this time no fatalities have been reported, but we have suffered some minor injuries and significant property loss. Our thoughts are with those recovering and all who are facing the difficult days ahead.
The Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with Fire Department teams are actively responding. Efforts are ongoing, and we are working to secure impacted areas. We ask residents to avoid unnecessary travel to allow first responders and utility teams to operate safely. A shelter has been established at the First Baptist Church at 801 North Cedar Street, and emergency resources are being deployed to assist those in need.
The damage across the Rolla community is extensive, and we understand the road to recovery will be long. Our community is strong, and we will get through this together. We encourage everyone to check on their neighbors and remain patient as response teams work to restore safety and services. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
