Thank you to all the volunteers and crews who are working diligently to clear tree debris. The City is actively making rounds with loaders and dump trucks, but the focus right now is to clear around the schools and then to expand from there.
The debris that is curbed, has to be large enough for a loader to pick-up. Smaller raked piles will not be picked up. Those will have to be bagged in paper yard waste bags or bundled with twine if they will not fit in the bags. The picture on the left showing the small pile is an example what cannot be loaded (picture on top for mobile). The picture on the right is an example of what can (picture on bottom on mobile).

Good Morning.
STORM TREE DEBRIS

*The City is actively making rounds to pick-up tree debris that has been curbed. As you can imagine, there is a lot of it. Please be patient.
*Keep storm tree debris separate from housing/fencing debris.
*If you need assistance cutting up storm tree debris in your yard, call 573-415-3661 – The Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. They have heavy equipment to help get it to the curb as well.
* If you are able to haul your debris yourself, your options are to dispose of it at the compost site past the Recycling Center off McCutcheon or the temporary disposal site at Oak Lane Drive.
STORM HOUSING DEBRIS
* The City has not yet been able to begin picking up storm housing/fencing debris that has been curbed. Hopefully they will be able to in a week, but it may be two weeks before they can. The tree debris has to be thinned out first.
* When curbing storm housing debris, keep it separated from tree debris and separate it best you can (metal from wood, bag insulation and paper)
* If you are able to haul housing debris yourself, if it is small enough to offload by hand yourself, you can take it for free to the dumpsters on Sharp Road.
* Larger loads can go to the transfer station
***Remember it is a crime to dispose of your debris in dumpsters being used by businesses and private citizens. See recent post shared by Rolla Police Department. ***
As always, if you have questions, you can email at resilentrolla@rollacity.org, or you can call 573-426-6942.

The tornado that struck the Rolla community has been confirmed as an EF2. The storm caused significant damage, with over 750 structures affected within the city limits. An additional 150+ structures are estimated to have been damaged outside Rolla within Phelps County.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with cleanup efforts. If you can help, please check in at the Big Lots. 1001 S Bishop in Rolla, from 9 to 5. Please do not self-deploy to any locations. Donated supplies can also be brought to the Big Lots parking lot. Anyone in need of cleanup assistance is encouraged to reach out to us at 573-415-9878.

Utility teams are actively working to restore services, and we are hopeful they will be restored within a week.

We are deeply saddened to report a weather-related fatality resulting from a generator being operated inside a residence. We urge everyone to prioritize safety by never operating generators indoors or near residences.

The damage across our community is extensive, and the recovery journey will be challenging. However, our community is resilient, and we will overcome this difficult time together. Please remain patient as response teams work tirelessly to restore services. Please continue to check on your neighbors.

Our hearts go out to everyone, impacted by the devastating storm that struck the Rolla community last night. We are grateful that at this time no fatalities have been reported, but we have suffered some minor injuries and significant property loss. Our thoughts are with those recovering and all who are facing the difficult days ahead.

The Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with Fire Department teams are actively responding. Efforts are ongoing, and we are working to secure impacted areas. We ask residents to avoid unnecessary travel to allow first responders and utility teams to operate safely. A shelter has been established at the First Baptist Church at 801 North Cedar Street, and emergency resources are being deployed to assist those in need.

The damage across the Rolla community is extensive, and we understand the road to recovery will be long. Our community is strong, and we will get through this together. We encourage everyone to check on their neighbors and remain patient as response teams work to restore safety and services. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
